A consistent format for similar items makes a wiki easy to use - once you've got your head around what information is available for one page of its kind, you can be reasonably sure to find that information on all of them. To this end, templates are very useful, and can often pre-fill a lot of the basic stuff in for you.
This section of the wiki should have a page for each template, describing how to use it, and links to a good example.
